College of Life Sciences, KMU Strengthens International Academic Collaboration through MoU Signing with Maejo University, Thailand

On May 8, 2026, the College of Life Sciences, Kaohsiung Medical University successfully hosted a delegation visit and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with the Faculty of Science, Maejo University at Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU), Taiwan. The event marked an important milestone in strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions and promoting international academic exchange between Taiwan and Thailand.
The delegation from Maejo University was led by President Weerapon Thongma and included senior administrators, deans, and distinguished researchers from diverse scientific disciplines. The KMU side was represented by leadership from the College of Life Sciences, Office of Global Affairs, department chairs, and faculty members from various academic units.
The ceremony commenced with welcoming remarks and institutional introductions by both universities. In his address, Dean Prof. Sodio C. N. Hsu highlighted the importance of international collaboration in advancing innovative research, interdisciplinary education, and global scientific partnerships. He emphasized that the collaboration between KMU and Maejo University would open new opportunities for faculty exchange, student mobility, and joint research in life sciences, environmental health, biotechnology, and sustainable development.
Dean Prof. Yuwalee Unpaprom expressed her appreciation to KMU for the warm hospitality and stated that the MoU would serve as a strong platform for future academic cooperation between the two institutions. She highlighted Maejo University’s commitment to sustainability-oriented research and international engagement, particularly in environmental biotechnology, renewable energy, food science, and applied sciences.
The event was further strengthened by the participation of department chairs and faculty representatives from the College of Life Sciences, including Prof. Wei-Yu Lin, Chair of the Department of Medical and Applied Chemistry; Prof. W. T. Liao, Chair of the Department of Biology and Biomedical Science; and Prof. P. F. Liu, Chair of the Department of Biotechnology. Faculty representatives and researchers from Biomedical Science and Environmental Biology also joined the discussions and networking sessions. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss future collaborative research projects, joint academic programs, student exchange initiatives, and international funding opportunities.
The event was coordinated and organized by Prof. Dr. Vinoth Kumar Ponnusamy, Director of International Affairs and Research Development of the College of Life Sciences, KMU, who actively facilitated academic exchange and collaborative opportunities between the two institutions. He also coordinated the delegation visit, academic exchange activities, and arrangements for the MoU signing ceremony, making significant contributions to the successful organization of the event and the establishment of future collaborative partnerships between the two universities.
The formal MoU signing ceremony symbolized a shared commitment to fostering long-term collaboration in education, research, innovation, and sustainable scientific advancement. The event concluded with a gift exchange ceremony, commemorative group photographs, and networking discussions among delegates and faculty members.
