KMU College of Life Sciences and Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology Join Hands to Cultivate Talent!
Complementary Strengths Create New Opportunities for Teaching and Research Innovation

Dean Sodio C.N. Hsu of the College of Life Sciences at Kaohsiung Medical University led a delegation of academic administrators to visit Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology on May 5. During the visit, the delegation toured the professional laboratories of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health. The two institutions also engaged in in-depth discussions on cooperation in teaching, research, and student recruitment, with the shared goal of creating greater advantages for talent cultivation through collaboration between higher education and technical-vocational education systems.
The KMU delegation included Dean Sodio C.N. Hsu, Chair Lin Wei-Yu of the Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry, Chair Liao Wei-Ting of the Department of Biotechnology, Chair Liu Pei-Feng of the Department of Biomedical and Environmental Biology, and Program Director Huang Chun-Ying. The group arrived at Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology at around 10 a.m., where they were welcomed by President Lee Bih-O and the university’s corresponding academic leadership team.
President Lee, who was seconded from KMU to serve as president of Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology last year, expressed her hope that the personal connections between the two institutions would foster more opportunities for collaboration in the future and create new momentum for institutional development.
To deepen mutual understanding, both universities introduced the distinctive features and development highlights of their institutions, colleges, and departments during the exchange visit. The two sides also discussed their respective strengths and research capacities in fields related to medical technology, life sciences, medicinal chemistry, and biotechnology, while exchanging views on potential future collaborations.
President Lee noted that although KMU belongs to the higher education system and Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology belongs to the technical-vocational education system, both institutions share similar goals in cultivating healthcare-related professionals. She pointed out that KMU’s Department of Medicinal and Applied Chemistry and Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology’s Department of Pharmacy possess highly complementary strengths in curriculum design, research themes, and talent development, offering significant potential for collaboration. In addition, KMU’s Department of Biomedical and Environmental Biology and related programs could collaborate with Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology’s Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology and Department of Food and Nutrition to create effective integration and division of labor in teaching and research, thereby generating more possibilities for inter-university cooperation.
Dean Sodio C.N. Hsu highly praised Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology for its 58 years of experience in cultivating professional talent, as well as its departmental and teaching facilities. He also expressed optimism regarding the enhancement of inter-university collaboration within the higher education sector to strengthen overall teaching and research capacity.
The exchange between the College of Life Sciences at KMU and Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology focused on cooperation in teaching, research, and student recruitment. Both sides reached a consensus on future directions, including promoting shared courses, faculty exchanges, and mutual support for student learning resources in teaching collaboration. In terms of research collaboration, the institutions plan to establish cross-university research teams and jointly apply for projects to enhance research capacity and visibility. Regarding recruitment and talent cultivation, they intend to develop diversified admission pathways and articulation mechanisms to attract outstanding students into life sciences and healthcare-related fields, thereby cultivating professionals who meet industry and societal needs.
Dean Sodio C.N. Hsu and the delegation also toured the teaching environments and practical training facilities of the Departments of Medical Technology, Occupational Safety and Health, and Pharmacy at Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology, further strengthening mutual understanding of the feasibility and direction of future collaboration.
This exchange visit not only symbolizes the deepening partnership between Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology and the College of Life Sciences at KMU, but also lays a solid foundation for future strategic alliances between the two institutions. Both universities hope that through resource sharing and complementary strengths, they can enhance overall competitiveness and jointly create a new chapter in the development of higher education.
